The main parts of a computer

The most important and main part of a computer is the system unit, which contains: a system board with its main components – a processor (sometimes called a central processor), main memory, cache, special slots for inserting additional boards and auxiliary chips (integrated circuits). There are also several compartments for external memory, a power supply for all components of the system unit and a small speaker. There are some controls on the front wall of the system unit (on / off button, indicator light, etc.). System blocks are produced in two main modifications: vertical and horizontal. In the second case, a monitor is usually placed on the system unit.

The system board is the main board of the system unit. It is equipped with chips, circuits, sockets, transistors and other elements. This board is often referred to as the motherboard. The computer processor is usually mounted directly on the system board, along with other electronic components. Other computer components, such as the hard drive, are connected to the system board using cables.

The central processing unit (CPU), meanwhile, is a key component of a computer. The CPU chip consists of many electronic components (transistors, diodes, resistors, etc.) and is mounted on the system board of the computer. The CPU determines the speed of the computer. The CPU’s operating speed is measured in megahertz (MHz) or gigahertz (GHz). (Mega is a million cycles per second. Giga is a billion cycles per second.) one unit. The speed of a computer as a system is also affected by the speed of random access memory (RAM), the speed and capacity of buffered memory (cache), the width and speed of the computer bus.
